David Kappelhoff

David is responsible for designing, developing and coordinating formal education and some MPC membership programs that allow individuals and groups to better understand the relationship humans have with the river. He is a main point of contact for teachers who are registering for school programs, including Big River Journey, Winter River, Take Me to the River, and online programs, among others. He also coordinates the River Educator program that places skilled environmental educators on school field trips.
David is an experienced formal educator, team leader, innovator, strategist, and creative communicator. Driven by a passion for outdoor education, he takes pride in developing and implementing programs that reach all learners and curiosity seekers who want to access and experience their natural surroundings.
His goal is to support the National Park Service in creating educational programs that are informative, inclusive, delightful, and life-changing.
Interests
David enjoys a wide variety of pursuits including biking, hiking, cross-country skiing, kayaking, hockey, photography, writing, podcasting, fast travel, intermittent ukulele, cat herding, and growing micro-greens.
