National Park Week: Volunteer Appreciation Day

The Minnesota national park sites are teaming up this year to bring a virtual National Park Week experience to you. Explore all six sites through live online activities, downloadable workbooks, solo adventuring in a local park, trip planning live chats, and connecting on social media.

Volunteer Appreciation Day

Volunteers are an integral part of practically everything Mississippi Park Connection and Mississippi National River and Recreation Area does to serve the community through youth education, environmental stewardship and public programming.

Many of our youth education programs, which brought 22,719 students to the river last year, are made possible by knowledgeable volunteers who lead hands-on activities and encourage active learning in a park setting.

Last year, 4,467 volunteers dedicated 13,901 hours to the National Park Service for habitat restoration, youth programs and other services in the national park. All kinds of volunteers are needed for a wide variety of projects including sewing, administration work, carpentry, wildlife surveys and more. Get involved at parkconnection.org/volunteer.

Mississippi National River and Recreation Area will also be highlighting some outstanding volunteers on the park’s Facebook page. Join in on the conversation or nominate someone in your community.
