  • Crosby Farm Regional Park 2595 Crosby Farm Road Saint Paul, MN, 55116 United States (map)

This is an event in two parts. The first part is in person and is limited to 10 people. The second part is online and anyone can participate.

First we will hike on easy paved and dirt trails in the floodplain forest to collect leaves and other natural things of interest with the goal of creating a ‘stained glass window’ using our items. A park ranger will facilitate a discussion about the things you've found, such as leaf types and general identification, dispersal methods, and adaptations. (If this event is full or you prefer not to meet in person, you can hike and collect on your own, then join us for the online portion!)

  • Printed instructions and a collection bag will be provided at the start.

  • Please wear weather appropriate clothing and sturdy shoes.

  • Masks are required anytime you are less than 6 feet away from other participants, including the park ranger. Thank you!

  • We recommend you bring a water bottle and hand sanitizer.

  • Depending on location, portapotties may not be available.

The second portion will take place at home as an online video tutorial on how to construct your "stained glass window" project from 4:00-4:30 PM. Check the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area’s Facebook page for the video.

Supplies needed for at-home craft:

  • newspaper or old pillowcase/linens

  • clothing iron

    wax paper

  • construction paper for frame (optional)

  • items collected on hike

  • an adult to assist with iron
