ABOUT MPC

Mississippi Park Connection (MPC) is the official 501c3 nonprofit organization for the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, a unit of the national park system located in Minnesota. Twin Cities metro area and managed by the National Park Service.

We support the national park by:

  • providing funding for youth education, natural and cultural resources, interpretation, and public programs.

  • co-managing programs to improve outcomes including Volunteers-in-Parks, Paddle Share, Plant for the Future, and Adaptive Silviculture for Climate Change.

  • supporting outreach and communication about the park through social media, the web, and in-person community programs.

  • creating connections between the national park and people in its surrounding communities.

Mississippi Park Connection serves as a place-based nonprofit organization in the Twin Cities seeking to connect people to the outdoors through hands-on, meaningful experiences on public lands. We accomplish this through habitat restoration events, community and corporate volunteerism, affinity programs like BIPOC in the Outdoors, and public programs on the river and in the park.

Mississippi Park Connection is seeking a Full-time Development and Engagement Coordinator. The development and engagement coordinator will work closely with MPC engagement team, program staff and leadership to build community around philanthropy and membership, increase individual giving and member support, organize special events, and engage with the community to increase awareness and connection to the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, the national park in the Twin Cities.

This is a full-time grant funded position. The deadline to apply is March 2, 2025.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Individual giving and membership:

  • Coordinate cultivation and donor stewardship plans to increase individual giving and annual membership, including the development of “donor journey plans” and carry through these efforts.

  • Keep up-to-date records and organize data in MPC’s constituent relationship management platform, Little Green Light CRM.

  • Utilize MPC’s constituent relationships management platform to identify development opportunities and analyze donor data. Research and advance funding opportunities to increase general operations funding and programmatic support.

  • Acknowledge and track donations.

  • Collaborate with colleagues to devise and execute a membership plan with an equity lens.

Community building and events:

  • Respond to requests and coordinate participation in community events where MPC engage with the public, build awareness of engagement opportunities including membership and volunteerism.

  • Coordinate with the Marketing and Events Specialist on event communications including invitations, marketing, gift acknowledgments, and follow-ups.

Development and engagement support:

  • Support development and engagement efforts within the context of a larger strategic plan.

  • Coordinate with the development team on grant submissions and reporting at the direction of MPC leadership.

  • Coordinate activities and logistics related to MPC’s fundraising and member events, appeals, and campaigns.

  • Seek sponsorships and coordinate event components such as silent auction, program, and donor experience.

  • Advance Mississippi Park Connection’s efforts to diversify its organization and the park’s visitors, and hold a deep commitment to equity and inclusion.

  • Build strong, inclusive, and equitable working relationships with other Mississippi Park Connection and National Park Service professionals.

  • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this position successfully, the candidate will have the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.

  • 2+ years of experience in nonprofit development.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills. Experience creating high-quality, on-brand communications and messaging.

  • Ability to follow work plans, organize details, set priorities, and meet deadlines.

  • Proven, steady success in setting and meeting organizational goals.

  • Ability to work independently and be self-directed, and work as a positive, contributing member of a team.

  • Comfortable engaging with donors, volunteers, and the public in informal and formal settings.

  • Ability and desire to support the mission, vision, and values of Mississippi Park Connection.

  • Ability and desire to work alongside the National Park Service and support the mission of national park.

  • Adept at engaging with individuals from varying backgrounds who hold beliefs from an array of experiences you may or may not hold.

  • Preference will be given to applicants who are multilingual.

  • Ability to meet federal background requirements.

  • Proficiency with office technology including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Google Workspace, and virtual communication platforms.

  • Experience with constituent relationship management platforms. Preference given for experience with Little Green Light CRM.

  • Hold a valid U.S. Driver’s License and qualify to drive a federal vehicle.

  • Ability to travel within the Mississippi National and River Recreation Area corridor.

  • Must be able to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

Working conditions and physical demands:

  • Some lifting up to 50 pounds may be required. Ability to lift campaign materials and organize events. Duties may include lifting tables, small boxes of materials, and other supplies.

  • Moderate noise level.

  • Required to move about in an office environment and sit for extended periods of time.

  • Required to move about in the community.

  • Occasional exposure to prevalent weather conditions. Field visits will entail moderate walking in outdoor conditions encountered potentially throughout all four seasons.

  • Ability to work seated and on the keyboard for long periods required.

  • Ability to work in person from the Saint Paul offices. Flexible work schedules may be discussed.
