Help preserve the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, while working together in a meaningful and unique way.

The Volunteers-in-Parks Program for the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, co-managed by Mississippi Park Connection and the National Park Service, has opportunities to connect groups with different sites along our park! Group volunteers develop a connection with their natural heritage through educational programs and informal learning opportunities with park rangers during habitat restoration projects. Groups work to remove introduced plant species that threaten the health of the river, plant native trees and plants, pick up litter, collect and distribute native seeds, and develop an understanding and appreciation of the Mississippi River. Projects are generally available Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays year-round.

Service-learning opportunities are customized for age, location, group size, and date to meet the needs of your group volunteers. We work with you to find a location on the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area that needs restoration and is close to your office or school. All tools and gloves are provided.
