Help preserve the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area while working together in a meaningful and unique way.
Volunteers-in-Parks is a national volunteer program at national parks around the country. Mississippi Park Connection and the National Park Service co-manage the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area volunteer program. We have opportunities to connect volunteer groups to different sites along the Mississippi River in the Twin Cities.
Groups work to remove introduced plant species that threaten the river's health, plant native trees and plants, pick up litter, collect and distribute native seeds, and develop an understanding and appreciation of the Mississippi River. Projects are generally available Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays year-round.
There are limited service-learning opportunities customized for age, location, group size, and date to meet the needs of your group volunteers. We will work with you to find a location on the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area that needs restoration and is close to you.
