Registration is not required for this event. This is a free event and open to the public.
Ice fishing is a quintessential Minnesota winter sport. Have you ever walked on a frozen lake? Fished through the ice? You can do that and more at this event hosted by the Hastings Park and Recreation Department and Carpenter St. Croix Nature Center among others. Fishing licenses will not be required, but it is a strictly catch and release program.
We supply the bait, poles, tackle, encouragement and instruction so all you need to do is show up and join us on the ice. We even drill the holes through which you fish, but you can drill your own if you wish! Be sure to join a ranger in a shelter and while warming up view the mysterious world below the ice through an underwater camera. Check the park's event pages (Jan 26 or Feb 9) for updates especially if the weather has been warm. We check ice safety a couple of days before the event and if the ice isn’t safe post a notice on the park's website.
