Winter Tree ID Walk

  • Coldwater/ Mni Owe Sni 5601 Minnehaha Park Drive South Minneapolis, MN, 55417 United States (map)
People in winter jackets hiking through the snowy forest with the sun shining through the trees.

Join us on January 30th, 2026, from 10:00 am-12:30 pm to learn how to ID trees in the winter without those all-telling leaves!

We will begin at the entrance of Coldwater/ Mni Owe Sni, and take you on a one-mile guided hike through the park. We highlight and teach how to identify five tree species along our way.

We will be hiking through as much snow as is on the ground at this point in January, and the pathways are not paved, so please be sure to wear waterproof winter boots with good traction to hike through snow drifts, and enough layers to stay warm while standing outside in cold and wind. Participants may bring hiking sticks/YakTrax/traction attachments.

Cancellation note: this event will go ahead unless there is a winter weather advisory or subzero temperatures.

We will be sending out an email before the event with additional information. If you have questions in the meantime, email Charlotte Cowdery at ccowdery@parkconnection.org
