Join National Park Service rangers and fellow bird enthusiasts for a day of birding, learning, and community at this annual drop-in event. We’ll be stationed at Mni Owe Sni (Coldwater Spring) to observe and document every bird we see or hear as part of the fall migration season.
What to Expect:
Ranger-led guided walks throughout the day to learn the significance of the area and to explore bird habitats and migration patterns.

Whether you're a seasoned birder or just curious, this is a welcoming space for everyone: families, solo birders, and curious newcomers alike. If you can spot a bird, you're qualified to join the Big Sit! Drop-in anytime from 7am to 7pm— come for an hour or stay all day.
What to Bring:
Camp chair or blanket
Snacks and non-alcoholic beverages
Binoculars, spotting scope, or camera
Smartphone for birding apps
Sunscreen and layered clothing (mornings can be chilly, afternoons warm)
