National Public Lands Day

PublicLandsDay-6173 small.jpg

Lend a hand restoring our national park and celebrate National Public Lands Day with the National Park Service, Mississippi Park Connection, and the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources! Pig's Eye Island Scientific and Natural Area (SNA) is one of the SNAs in the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area, whose purpose is to protect natural features of exceptional scientific or educational value.

Volunteers will meet at Harriet Island Regional Park to board the Padelford boat to Pig's Eye Scientific and Natural Area to clean up trash on the site. Park rangers will provide interpretation about the Mississippi National River and Recreation Area to participants on their journey to the island.

Please wear close-toed shoes, layers, and bring snacks, water, sunscreen, and insect repellant. Staff will provide gloves, trash grabbers, and bags for participants. This event is open to all ages! The island has some steep/uneven terrain, so participants with mobility issues can stay on the boat and assist rangers and staff with grabbing bags from others.

For questions, please contact volunteer@parkconnection.org.
