Meet Becca, Our New Community Forestry Corps Member

My name is Becca and I am the new Community Forestry Corps Member serving Mississippi Park Connection for the 2020-2021 year!

Becca is smiling while it's a sunny morning! There is a body of water in the background with trees, a rock formation, and people siting next to the water.

The Community Forestry Corps is a new AmeriCorps program focused on  protecting and preserving Minnesota’s environment, with a special focus on restoring tree canopy. I am so glad to be serving under MPC to fulfill this mission, and more, once again. Previously, I served as part of MPC’s Conservation Corps “Mississippi River Crew” for two years. My love for the river grew during that time, and I found myself able to connect with people through that sweet river love. I aim to keep growing these connections and foster even more in our community as my service continues.

My first river experience was with the Ottertail River up in Fergus Falls, MN where I was born and raised. I suppose part of me didn’t want to leave moving water behind, because I soon found myself attending the University of Minnesota in the Twin Cities, right along the bends of the big river herself. I graduated with a B.A. in English, pursued due to my love of fiction, comic books, and just words in general. I find stories to be at the heart of all individuals, all communities, and all of our big blue world. Let’s swap stories if you ever have the time!

You can usually find me out taking photos, playing Animal Crossing, petting neighborhood cats, eating cheeseburgers, or swimming when it’s not below zero outside.

I can’t wait to see what other awesome activities I’ll get up to while serving with MPC. I am so ready to take on the year, and I hope you all are too! Let’s make some positive changes in our environment and community, learn from each other and grow, and, last but not least, have FUN along the way. Cheers!
